Your top 10 checklist to ace your interview
Congratulations! Your resume and initial interactions have landed you advancement to the interview stage. Here is your top 10 checklist for interview success:
· Ask in advance about the interview format [one-on-one, by panel, in a group and who will be present – hiring manger, human resources, stakeholder(s)?]
· Research the organization (mission, history, leadership, recent developments) and role (priorities, need for hiring now) ahead of time – not day of
· Review the job description, consider what interview questions might be asked, reflect on your best examples, and craft key points to feature your expertise
· Bring 5 printed copies of your resume in case one or more interviewers don’t have one / or if interviewing virtually, be ready to send in the chat if needed
· Have your resumes and anything else you need ready to go the night before
· Present a simple, well-groomed, clean, pressed and confident appearance – it is always better to be more professionally dressed than not enough.
· Get good rest the night before so that you are more alert and “on your game”
· Make sure you know how to get to the interview and how long it will take – you want to get there 10-15 minutes early, and not a minute late!
· Avoid anything that will distract from the interaction of the interview – so no strong scents or bold clothing
· During the interview, exhibit open and calm body language – sit up straight, make eye contact, and smile to show interest in the conversation
